Although economically growing Tanzania is a very peaceful nation, distancing itself from the conflicts which fill our television screens. Its tolerance of different tribal and religious beliefs add to its diversity and charm.
Situated near the equator the climate is generally hot and humid in the coastal regions, whilst in the northern and southern highlands it is dry and hot in daytime with cold evenings. The small rains come in November and December while the big rains fall from January through to March.

The official language is Swahili and English is very widely spoken.
A valid passport and visitor’s visa is required. These can be obtained in advance or on arrival. Visas are available from the Tanzanian High Commission in London and take 24 hours to process, alternatively, they can be obtained within minutes at Dar es Salaam and Kilimanjaro International Airports and Namanga Gate on the Kenya/Tanzania border.
We recommend you consult your GP before you travel as many of our clients like to get vaccinations and anti-malarial precautions. If you are planning to climb one of Tanzania’s mountains, a general health check is recommended and you may wish to discuss altitude sickness tablets with your GP.
The larger towns and cities have reasonable hospitals and clinics and the National Parks also offer Flying Doctor services for emergencies.
Dar es Salaam receives scheduled flights daily from London by major airlines including British Airways and KLM. Kilimanjaro International Airport is the most popular point of entry and is convenient for those visiting the northern parks and mountains.
It is also possible to reduce costs by flying to Nairobi (Kenya) and transferring to Tanzania by shuttle bus (approximately 5 hours).
